Hanno un dislivello di poco più di 200 metri, e sulla parete rocciosa ci sono tre distinti salti.
Il Rio Verde, le cui sorgenti si trovano in Abruzzo, al confine con il Molise, è uno degli affluenti del fiume Sangro.
Nelle vicinanze, a circa 7 km di distanza é presente un'altra Riserva, altrettanto famosa ed importante, si tratta della Riserva Naturale Regionale Abetina di Rosello, dove ha anche sede il C.I.S.D.A.M.

The Cascate del Verde regional nature reserve and WWF OASI is a protected natural area located in the municipality of Borrello, in the province of Chieti. The reserve includes an area of approximately 287 hectares and was established in 2001. The Cascate del Verde, at 800 m above sea level, are the highest natural waterfalls in the Apennines, and the second in Italy. They have a difference in height of just over 200 metres, and there are three distinct jumps on the rock face.
The Rio Verde, whose sources are located in Abruzzo, on the border with Molise, is one of the tributaries of the Sangro river.
Nearby, about 7 km away, there is another Reserve, equally famous and important, it is the Abetina di Rosello Regional Nature Reserve, where the C.I.S.D.A.M. is also based.
